Dare to Shine

“No matter the darkness around you, Shine your Light, even if you are the only thing shining in miles” Tylor Knott Gregson

Yesterday I read the latest article from Jessica Abel blog, There is no gatekeeper. There is no gate. Which basically states how often many of us do not try to show our work or our passions for fear of being ridiculed, criticized or even ignored, like if our own Impostor Syndrome and negativity is not enough.

So we continue dreaming that one day when our work will be good enough we will be ready to show it to the world.
The truth is, it never will. There will always be something we do not like that will prevent us from opening.
The experience is really not the same when we give our work to others instead of keeping it ourselves.
The consciousness you acquire through that simple but very courageous act is life changing.  Dreams are beautiful and necessary but also they need to be turned into reality.
It can be that once they manifest, you realize it is not what you wanted, or thanks to that coming out it leads to another path that is more interesting.

Unless you try you will never know. There are endless possibilities out there once you will show your true light.
But if you never start you will have denied your self the possibility to be noticed and appreciated.
I have learned this lesson before the Internet era, and maybe because of this, it has been easier.
When I started working I used to be hired easily because I was very fluent in three languages, which
I learned by speaking them.
English I learned because that was the only school available in the country we moved to, which was Kenya. After three months being there, I had to do my first exams at the end of third grade. On English Literature, for some strange reason, I mistook the word enemies with friends and wrote the whole essay about Henry IV’s friends (it was supposed to be his enemies). Imagine my teacher’s laughter and the whole class, but my self-included!!
Spanish was the same. I started working there and while some of my Italian colleagues were very shy and kept to themselves, I blattered along in Italian adding an s at the end of the words to make them sound Spanish, and out of 10 words maybe I got a couple right at first, and the Spanish were very amused but also they appreciated my efforts and respected me for it. Suddenly one day after a year I realized I spoke Spanish by understanding everything that was being said on the news, then started working in a Lawyer’s office as a secretary, without experience.

But if I hadn’t dared to try at least, I probably would have ended coming back to Italy.
My restless soul would always challenge me to dare something new. When I had enough experience in one type of job, there was always something new and exciting to try. Even if I did not know how, I was always very confident that I would learn as much as I could to carry out my duties in the best way and I did.
Everything can be learned, and through practice, achieve excellence but the difference between one person and another is that special something that each of us carries, that makes us do whatever we do in a different way, and that is our mark, our style. It is always raw at first but can only become evident by being there in the crowd and being true to yourself.
Of course, expanding our knowledge is fundamental, in any way, through learning new techniques, courses, books etc. so that we specialize in whatever we choose to do and give the tools to our soul to express that uniqueness fully. But that should be accompanied by throwing yourself into the reality of experience from where you gather confidence in yourself and your particular abilities.
rainbow shineSuch is the consciousness that pushed me to venture in my Artistic journey, not because I had experience or knowledge. My knowledge was limited to my high school practices, but because my inner-self wanted to concentrate its energies towards that goal. For sure if I had had deadlines and a boss on top of me I would have become a much better Artist then being self-employed. Sometimes when we work for ourselves we have a tendency to prioritize others wishes than our own and lose perspective.
But nevertheless, my work was out there, in one way or another I was always present and loyal to my Artist soul. There were many other Artists far better than I was around me but was that reason enough to take away the right to express myself?  No, that was a good reason to push me to become better!
Even now I see my work and wish it could be better, I read my posts and wish I could find a better way of expressing my ideas, but it does not prevent me from trying, from being here posting whatever I can manifest. With a lot of self-doubts and questioning, but I know very well that if I don’t, there is nothing. Complete emptiness. The World will not miss me, but my spot will be empty and dark. Like when walking down a street at night and suddenly there is darkness because the light that should be shining is broken.dandelion
Each one of us is a light to one another, sometimes we need to switch off for a while to recharge, or for maintenance, but always bring it back on. Whatever it is that sparks your light, cultivate it and show it to the world. It may seem that nobody cares at first, but if you are out there your spot is shining, you never know when a lone traveler passing by will need you.
I found this beautiful Poem and wanted it to share it with you.

Why Not You?

Today, many will awaken with a fresh sense of inspiration. Why not you?
Today, many will open their eyes to the beauty that surrounds them. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to leave the ghost of yesterday behind and seize the immeasurable power of today. Why not you?
Today, many will break through the barriers of the past by looking at the blessings of the present. Why not you?
Today, for many, the burden of self-doubt and insecurity will be lifted by the security and confidence of empowerment. Why not you?
Today, many will rise above their believed limitations and make contact with their powerful innate strength. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to live in such a manner that they will be a positive role model for their children. Why not you?
Today, many will choose to free themselves from the personal imprisonment of their bad habits. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live free of conditions and rules governing their own happiness. Why not you?
Today, many will find abundance in simplicity. Why not you?
Today, many will be confronted by difficult moral choices and they will choose to do what is right instead of what is beneficial. Why not you?
Today, many will decide to no longer sit back with a victim mentality, but to take charge of their lives and make positive changes. Why not you?
Today, many will take the action necessary to make a difference. Why not you?
Today, many will make the commitment to be a better mother, father, son, daughter, student, teacher, worker, boss, brother, sister, & so much more. Why not you?
Today is a new day!
Many will seize this day.
Many will live it to the fullest.
Why not you?

I was inspired to write this post by the beautiful spot from the Olympics 2018, ” Become The Light” and their message, which you can watch here
