How to Shine in times of Stress

“You have been called to be who you are – the whole luminous light. No one can dim your light when you are fully present to the depth and breadth of it.” Debbie Ford

When we feel safe and protected from within this is when we can truly manifest our beauty and talents.

If we are always in a survival mode, in tension because we do not know from where the next blow is going to come, there is very little space left for higher inspiration or having the time to go within.

Yet even among all the chaos and uncertainty that space can be found within our minds.

These are some of the ways that you can release tension immediately:

AWARENESS
By practising to be aware of your feelings all the time within your body, you will be able to realize when tension is building up and through detachment understand what to do about it.

MEDITATION
The practise of meditating even 10 minutes every morning upon awakening and at night before sleeping trains your brain for awareness during the day.

FOCUS ON BREATHING
When you become aware that you are stressed, focus on breathing through the nose. Just ignore all thoughts and focus on the space underneath your nose and observe your natural breathing rhythm. That automatically takes away the attention from the stressor and you relax.

TAPPING OR EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE
If none of the above has worked, I have found that tapping calms me instantly. It is a technique where you tap some of the meridian points on your face and head which releases the Fight or Flight response.
If you are in front of people and you can’t just start tapping, you can just say within yourself “Even though I feel this Fear (or rage, any other emotion) I completely and deeply accept and love myself.”

THROUGH CREATIVITY
Any form of Creativity is a way to connect with our inner self. I personally heal through playing with Colors and Drawings. Journalling or writing is also an important habit to release feelings. Playing music if you are able to. And what about gardening?
Anything that focuses the mind on something joyful.

Practise is very important to be able to remember that we have the choice to stop all negative and subtle fearful thoughts, because without it, during stress, we will not remember to do all these things.

It is almost impossible to cultivate positive attitudes and beliefs when we are stuck in survival mode. Our heart is not open. Our rational mind is disengaged. Our consciousness is focused on fear, not love. Making clear choices and recognizing the consequences of those choices is unfeasible. What is the Fight or Flight response?

Creating this Mandala using these deep Red colors with White and Gold have created a deep sense of balance and safety within me, and it was a color I did not want to use initially. But this is the healing power of Mandalas and Colors to balance our energies. You can read more in my portfolio post.

Red is associated with the First Chakra, The Root, which relates to our survival, our sense of safety and protection. Meditating with this color strengthens our sense of personal security. https://www.chakra-anatomy.com/root-chakra.html

You can also just have this color by your side to look at from time to time, or play with the color by drawing, coloring or painting.

I would love to know your thoughts. Do you have any other ways to release stress and tension?
